Maj. Connie Shingledecker
Maj. Connie Shingledecker is a 39-year veteran law enforcement officer, retired from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in June of 2016. She began her career in 1977 and worked in various areas within the agency during her career. She was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division for over twenty years, during which time she investigated and supervised the investigations of Crimes against Children. Maj. Shingledecker was the Investigative Bureau Chief over Criminal Investigations, Child Protective Investigations and Narcotics and Vice for the last 16 years of her career.
Although retired, Connie is very active in the community and instructs in the areas of Sexual and Physical Child Abuse, Death Investigations, Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Investigation, Crime Scene Re-enactment and Re-construction, and Understanding and Investigating Domestic Violence. She is a member of the following organizations; Florida’s Child Abuse Death Review Team, Manatee County Child Death Review Team, Manatee County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, Manatee County Children’s Services Advisory Board, Leadership Manatee Alumni, The Family Safety Alliance, the Manatee County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, and the Bradenton Kiwanis Club.
Ret. Maj. Shingledecker has a BA degree in Public Administration with a minor in Criminology, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Saint Leo College, and a graduate of the FBI National Academy,185th Session, in Quantico, Virginia. She is a Manatee County resident, has been married to Jim Shingledecker for 40 years, and is the proud grandmother of a four year old granddaughter and a one year old grandson.
